Welcome to a unique service for us at West! We only do this once a year and I look forward to it because it gives us a chance to do something that we don't normally experience - looking at something other than the back of the head in front of you! There is something about Face-to-Face that brings a different experience for us as the church. If you go way back in time, the original church began in the comfort of homes and very personal connections. This meant that everyone knew everyone. There was face to face every time the church gathered. It was only as the church grew in influence and size that the format we have now was embraced, for convenience and effectiveness in gathering people. And we lost something in the translation. This is why small groups are important for our Christian experience. If all we do is look at the back of a head, then go grab Chipotle after service, we are denied the interaction that is reserved for the people of the kingdom of God.
And especially for Christmas season. Gathering is a key component of Christmas. And one of the things that I enjoy is the catching up. Friends, family, in for the break, freer time allows for conversation, laughter, stories told and retold that get bigger each year - it's fantastic!
So, at your tables, take a few minutes and share a favorite Christmas moment with your new friends and old family!
