1) We are in a series on hope right now
a) Hope is most profound in the midst of despair
b) I can't help but think of this in terms of what's happening with the Cubs right now
i) How many of you are Cubs fans?
ii) There seems to be a lot more of you this year...
c) They've had to overcome many superstitions to get this point
i) Arizona wasn't a state the last time they won the World Series!
ii) They've had a lot of hope, but even more disappointment
d) One Cubs fan decided to give some advice to people sitting in Steve Bartman's seats
i) Bartman tried to catch a foul ball in 2003 and interrupted a play
ii) ''Cubs fans sitting near Bartman seats. Don't interfere. Don't move. Not even to save your child. Note hand placement''

d) Today we are going to look at the connection between hope and holiness

3) What comes to mind when you think of holiness?
a) Close your eyes for a moment and picture holiness, what does a holy person look like?
b) Maybe you think of a monk in a monastery... but he won't talk to you
c) It's often referred to as being ''set apart''
d) Google search: His holiness...

e) I would suggest that this view of holiness makes it very difficult for us
i) We struggle to connect with this for ourselves
ii) As a result, we can give up on this pursuit pretty easily
