2) What Is The Church?
a) Today we're going to talk about the church
i) I LOVE the church!
(1) I'd argue that it's far and away the most important organization on the planet.
(2) When I think of the church I have lots and lots of great memories.
(a) Lots of my life has been lived in the church
(i) When I was in high school
1. The church leaving cookies at my door.
(ii) When I was in college
1. They would send me ''care packages''
2. I had a hard time coming to understand that there was a group of people who cared about me, even though I had nothing to offer them in return.
3. This grabbed my heart and my attention.
(iii) I've wanted to be on the inside of the church ever since!
(b) In this church particularly
(i) I think of all the good the church does.
(ii) All the lives that are touched, needs that are met,
ii) But what I think of might be very different than what you think of...
b) What do you think of?
i) The people who make up this church come from many different backgrounds
(1) There are many people who were a ''former'' something
(2) There are former Methodists, and Baptists, and Catholics and Mormons
(3) And there are former Jews and Muslims and Hindus' and Buddhists'...
(a) And that's just the staff...!
(b) But I kid!
ii) All of us bring preconceived notions, expectations, and baggage along with us.
iii) Perhaps you had a bad experience at another church and before giving up on it, you decided to give Central a shot.
(1) You are hoping.
