Big Idea: Where has God placed you...for such a time as this?
1) Opening Comments
a) Welcome and Greetings
b) We continue today thru The Story
i) We are in Chapter 20 today
ii) Next week, Chapter 21 will conclude the OT
c) Bible: The Book of Esther
i) This is one of the coolest books in the Bible.
ii) It is absolutely one my favorites
d) Journal:
i) Week #4
ii) Title: The Queen of Beauty and Courage
iii) Big Idea: Where has God placed you...for such a time as this?
(1) Not a proposition, rather a question.
(2) A very important question
2) Understanding the Cast of Characters
a) There are five main characters to this story
i) My friend Dave Stone, Pastor of Southeast Christian in Louisville, came up with a way to illustrate this that I thought was brilliant. Which I'm going to borrow for the sake of clarity
ii) Imagine each of these cards being a ''player'' in our story.
b) So here we go
i) We have a King.
(1) This is Xerxes
(2) He is the king over all of Persia
ii) We have two Queens
(1) Queen Vashti
(a) The Queen of Diamonds
(b) She is stunningly beautiful... ''arm candy'' for the king.
(2) Queen Esther
(a) The Queen of Hearts
(b) She's going to bless your heart today
iii) We have a Joker
(1) This is Haman
(2) Not because he's funny, but because he is a clown.
(3) Actually, he's quite a despicable character and he's going to cause no small trouble for the Jewish people.
iv) Lastly, we have an Ace
(1) As in... an ace in the hole.
(2) This is Mordecai
(3) He's going to be a game changer.
3) The Storyline
a) Timeline:
i) Last week... Cyrus, the King of Persia allowed the return of the Jews to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.
ii) What I want you to understand is that there were only about 50,000 people who made the return trip the first time.
(1) That meant there were many, many Jewish peo ...
