The Forgiven Man
Rex Yancey
Colossians 2:13-15
The following message appeared on the text of a Christmas card: ''If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God sent us a Savior.''
A little boy ran into the kitchen and said, ''Mama, there is a lion in the yard!'' When the mother looked for herself she saw a large collie dog in the yard. She scolded her son and told him to go to his bedroom and pray for forgiveness for telling a lie. When he returned later, she asked him if he had prayed for forgiveness. He said, ''Yes, but God told me that the first time he saw that dog, he thought it was a lion, too!''
There is no doubt that man's greatest need is forgiveness. ''All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.'' This is the reality we live with and forgiveness is the solution we need.
''The wages of sin is death...'' How can you avoid the payday of sin in your life? There is only one way and that is forgivenss.
''Everyone who commits sin is the servant of sin...'' How can you escape the bondage of sin? There is only one means of liberation and that is for God to forgive your sins.
Whether we admit it or not everyone deals with sin in his own way.
-Some people flaunt it. Ps. 52:1 ''Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?'' In recent years we have seen all kind of evil come out of the closet, flaunt itself in the face of traditional morality, and even lobby for special rights and privileges. But flaunting sin does not solve the sin problem... ''The wages of sin is death...'' It just provides a convenient rationalization. The modern way to eradicate sin is by making it politically correct.
A young man went to see his priest. ''Father, I have sinned for I have kissed a pretty girl.'' ''How many times did you ...
