(3) Big Idea: Vision is the ability to see the obvious.
(a) You are never more blind than when you fail to see what God intended to be obvious.
c) A Quick Review of Last Week
i) Genesis 12:2-3
(1) God call's Abraham
(2) Genesis 12:2-3 ''I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.''
(3) God would bless him
(4) God would bless his family (Israel) so it could be a blessing to all people.
ii) God's making some choices...
(1) He chooses Abraham to bless
(2) He chooses Israel to be a blessing
(3) His choices were reflections of his grace, not their goodness.
iii) The story of Israel is one of rebellion and disobedience
(1) You see in their time both before and during Egypt
(a) God sends Moses
(2) You see it in the Sinai Peninsula
(a) Moses, Joshua when they went up to get the tablets
(b) An orgy breaks out
(3) You see it in the promised land once they entered it
(a) God used Joshua
(b) After he died, chaos set in
(4) Judges 17:6 ''In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.''
(a) God used Judges to lead them.
(b) Actually, HE was their leader, but they didn't follow
(5) They wanted a king...
(6) The problem was... they rejected God
(a) 1 Samuel 8:7 ''And the Lord told him: 'Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.'''
d) They get a king...
i) They get Saul... a train wreck.
ii) Then God gives them David...
