We are in a brand-new year and a brand-new sermon series we are calling ''READY.'' We believe God is getting us ready for the things that He desires to do in 2017 and beyond. Therefore, we are entering a time of prayer and fasting as a church. We are setting aside a 21-day period as an all-church fast.
PRAYER
Prayer is communication to God and communication from God and is key to our relationship with Him. It is seeking the face of God to find His heart. It is reading His word and letting His word read our hearts. It is personal and it is corporate. It is making our requests known to God. It is confession and a cry for personal change. It is bringing others before the throne of God, and interceding for our nation and government. It is worship. It is thanksgiving. It is allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through us. It brings us out of the flesh realm and into the Spirit. It is asking, it is seeking, it is knocking. It is tarrying or waiting until something happens between us and God.
FASTING
Fasting is depriving our flesh so that we can become more spiritually sensitive, able to hear the voice of God more accurately, and build our confidence in God. There are different kinds of fasts for different lengths of time. There is an absolute fast, and those that are just for a portion of the day. There is a liquid only fast, and a Daniel fast (which is basically no meats, no sweets). You can fast social media or another pleasure like video games. But the point here is to carve away a fleshly pleasure to make ourselves more open to the voice of the Lord.
FAITH
Prayer coupled with fasting is powerful, but if your prayer is not coupled with faith, it loses its power. So, if you are fasting but your prayer is still not in faith, you are just on a good Christian diet! But if you are fasting with the right motives, then fasting will increase your capacity to BELIEVE! Remember it is PRAYER and ...
