Revelation 16:12-17
On Wednesday of this week, the USA Today had an article entitled, "FBI: Militias a threat at millennium." Let me read you just a few sentences. "With some extremists attaching apocalyptic significance to the new millennium, the FBI is quietly warning local police about possible threats posed by anti-government militias and hate organizations.
The campaign includes the national distribution of a report titled, Project Megiddo, in which federal authorities assess threats posed by hate groups and explain the significance of biblical references the groups used to discuss Y2K.
The project which is named, Project Megiddo, for an ancient battleground in Israel associated with Armageddon, will be the centerpiece of an FBI seminar this month before the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Charlotte, N.C."
The word, Armageddon, has found its way into our vocabulary. When there is a war looming in some part of the earth, there are talks and statements made--is this going to be the situation that will precipitate Armageddon? Also, when we encounter some of the difficulties we do around the world, people are saying, "Is this Armageddon?" There have been many movies which have as their subject, the Battle of Armageddon, this end-time battle. Books have been written about it. James Michener wrote a book entitled The Source, and Armageddon is the historical setting for this source.
It's rather interesting, when you study your Bible, to discover that the word, Armageddon, occurs only time in the entire Bible. It occurs here in Revelation 16:16--a place called in the Hebrew tongue--Armageddon. The word literally means the mountain of Megiddo. Some believe that it may indeed be Mt. Carmel which sits right on the edge of the city of Haifa and looks down the plains of the valley of Jezreel or the valley of Megiddo as it is called. It is a beautiful, beautiful valley.
