1) We live in a confusing world
a) To help with this, a guy named Mark Gubin made on a giant sign on his roof
i) He has a gallery building right by the airport
ii) He used 6 foot tall letters
iii) Picture - Cleveland
b) Here's the thing though... he lives in Milwaukee!
c) In 1978 he was having lunch with his assistant on the roof
i) As they watched the low flying planes overhead, she mentioned how nice it would be to make a sign welcoming people to Milwaukee
ii) Gubin replied, ''You know what would even be better?''
iii) And 27 years later it remains to this day

2) Today we begin a new series
a) That's what He Said
i) We are going to look at different passages that Christians quote out of context today
ii) It takes so little to confuse the meaning of something
iii) Like, for example, a poorly placed barcode
iv) Picture - dog book
b) The point of this series is not to equip you to make other Christians feel stupid
i) We don't need any more help in this area
ii) Story: getting heckled during my workshop
c) The point is to see the context of how these passages are used and to get to the deeper meaning which we often miss

3) Get out your journals to week one
a) Today's title: The Lord Gives and Takes
b) Go in your bibles to the book of Job
c) It's right before Psalms and Proverbs
d) I don't know what his mom called him, but it's pronounced ''Jobe''

4) Not surprisingly, the book talks about a guy named Job who follows God
a) Job 1:1-3 ''In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters, 3 and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.''
