Ephesians 5:15-6:4
If you have your Bible, please turn to Ephesians chapter 5. I want to talk about this subject in keeping with the day, It's Not Easy Being Dad.
It was June 9, 1987 that my life was changed forever because it was on that day that my first daughter, Jill, was born. Born in Houston, Texas. Born in the afternoon. June 9, 1987. Boy, I was just filled with emotion, concern for my wife, as she had to have a C-section and elated about the fact that our daughter came into this world. And then, just overwhelmed with the responsibility of now being a dad.
Hey, to be a good dad, which is in my heart, I want to be a good dad, it's not easy to be dad. And within that first year I learned a lot about being a dad. We have a picture of me with Jill in that first year. And I asked the question, ''What happened to that guy?'' I mean, where did he go? My daughter grew up and I grew out, and it really isn't being a dad.

Life is hard and life is filled with problems. And the more responsibility you have and that you've been given, by God, the more difficult it becomes; the more you have to give an account for. And so we want to look today at what it means to be a dad. And I've talked to lots of guys, on Father's Day. They don't like to come to church because they say, ''They're going to talk about dads. They're going to talk about being a good dad. And they're going to beat me up and show me all the things I'm not doing right. And I don't like to come on Father's Day.'' Well, this is not a beat-down session. This is a build-up session. Listen! No one has arrived in this thing called manhood, in this thing called fatherhood; really, in this thing called personhood and Christianity. W ...
