I am sure those of you who enjoy reading or watching a good mystery have discovered that sometimes the smallest detail can sometimes be the key to the whole mystery. What appears to be nothing more than a cameo appearance for a seemingly stray and insignificant character who wanders onto the scene for a brief moment may become an important clue (foreshadowing of a future event or plot twist).
1. Things like that show the great attention to detail and plot development that went into the story.
2. Things like that demonstrate the story's great continuity - that everything is connected.
3. It shows that the book is not a compilation of various unrelated short stories (which some horribly written books and movies appear to be) but one great drama beginning to end.
That is one of the many reasons I love the Bible so much.
1. Though we may not always see it or understand all if it in its various parts (there are some parts that are hard to understand) they all come together to form one great overarching story.
2. Everything is significant and plays a part in telling the story, the story of Jesus and redemption.
3. Everything in some way prepares us for Jesus and points us to the Gospel (Story of man's intentional and wilful fall into sin and God's rescue mission to save Him).
4. The Bible is a book that is essentially about Christ. That statement is not just true of the NT it is also true of the OT. The OT anticipates His coming and reveals to us the nature of His ministry and even looks beyond His earthly life to the ultimate and final fulfillment of all of God's promises. Christ's thumbprint is on every page and embedded in every story.
5. Sometimes we will not pick up on the many of the small details in the OT and see how they connect Christ. The more you read the Bible as a whole and read the whole not just parts you begin to see a particular image - certain language - w ...
