Hebrews 11:5-6
Have you ever met someone or been around someone that you simply could not please. No matter what you did it was wrong - even the things you didn't do were wrong. If you wanted to please them you were not even sure how...
Some people, mistakenly, see God in this way. They believe that it is impossible to please God and that if they wanted to they wouldn't even know how. While some people may feel that way, it is not true. It is not impossible to please God but it is impossible to please God without faith.
Faith is essential to the life of a believer.
1. It is how we enter into relationship with God.
2. It is how we are to live out that relationship with God.
3. It is only through faith that we can approach God and it is only through faith that we can continually relate to God.
Hebrews 11.4 (verse we looked at last week) told us that it was by faith, which is our response, our positive and obedient response to what God has said, that Abel was accepted by God.
1. He approached God in faith. He took God at His Word.
2. He approached God as a sinner in need of forgiveness.
3. He approached God as one who deserved to die but trusted in the sacrificial and substitutionary death of another to cover his sin.
4. He did not approach God on his own merits or his own terms but on the merits of another.
Abel demonstrated to us that salvation by faith is nothing new. It has always been the way in which we were designed to enter into relationship with God. Today we are going to look at the life of Enoch, another OT figure briefly mentioned in the opening chapters of the Bible. As we look at Enoch's life we will discover the importance of living a life of faith, walking by faith.
1. We really don't get to see that in Abel. Abel's life was cut short.
2. In Enoch we see a man who walked by faith.
