Our house may be unique in this way - though I seriously doubt it - but there is a scene that unfolds regularly, too regularly. You will be enjoying a quiet and relaxing moment (few and far between) or busy doing something else when you hear someone in the family (usually on of the kids) holler, ''Mom, Dad come here!'' But, they refuse to tell you what they want or need. So you shout back, ''What do you want?!'' To which they respond, ''Come here.'' To which you respond, ''No, not until you tell me what you want!''

Why? Why do we respond that way?

1. When it comes to our children, maybe we could say that we want to teach them that we are in charge and not them (good luck with that one).
2. Truth be told, we are busy doing what we want or feel like we need to be doing and we don't like to be interrupted. I don't know of many people who like interruptions.
3. It's not so much the interruption sometimes as it is not knowing what you are walking into. With the kids it could be anything from ''What time is supper?'' to homework struggles or a stopped up and overflowing drain.
4. No one likes shoving off into the unknown. We like to have some idea about what awaits us.
a. Boss calls and simply says, ''We need to meet tomorrow morning'' and you are not sure why or for what and you spend the rest of the day and night wondering what in the world is going on.
b. Someone from the church calls and asks to set up a meeting with me - that is always somewhat frightening because it could run the gamut as to what that meeting could be about or what position is it going to put me in.
c. School calls and wants to set up a teacher and parent meeting but they don't say why and worry sets in.

It's hard to answer the call or give an answer to a question, especially one that requires something of us, when we don't have all the details. That's why Abraham's answer and faithfulness to God ...
