Hebrews 13:17-21
Some husbands are absolutely clueless. A fact that I know comes with no surprise to the wives in here today.
1. Husbands live life at an extreme disadvantage, especially when it comes to buying and giving gifts to their wives.
2. No matter how hard they try or what they buy it seems they come up a little short. They mean well but that doesn't earn them as many points as they would like and hope for.
The problem isn't all on them. They just don't know. They just can't figure things out.
1. It is a little like playing the lottery, which I don't recommend. You may get lucky one out of a million and hit the jackpot but most of the time you just miss.
2. Rather than leave the poor lugs guessing you would think their loving wives could help them out by providing them with a concrete list of actual things they can do our buy instead of vague hints, innuendoes and charades - we're not good at those things.
There is comfort when walking into an uncomfortable environment like the mall knowing you have a plan, a list. There is comfort in knowing what makes your wife happy, sad, mad or glad. No guesswork and no confusion. No upset stomach while she pulls away the paper and opens the box. That is good news.
That's one of the things I love about Scripture. It takes the guesswork out of what it takes for us to please God. We don't have to wonder, guess or take a stab into the darkness in hopes of hitting upon a gift or sacrifice that will be pleasing to Him.
1. God does not lead us through a labyrinth of veiled hints and fuzzy innuendoes.
2. God tells us very plainly what kind of sacrifice, gift of a life, He expects us to offer that pleases Him.
Over the last couple of weeks we have seen some things that we can do that pleases and honors God - much of that is summarized in verse 15.
