Genesis 3:6-8
1) Pleasure is such an interesting topic to discuss in church
a) Most of us aren't sure what to think about pleasure
b) I realized this when we were attempting to come up with book covers
i) Picture - Book 1
ii) Picture - Book 2
iii) Picture - Book 3
iv) Picture - Redeeming Pleasure Cover
c) If we're honest, most of us don't know what to do with pleasure
i) We tend to think only of sex
ii) But that's only one part of the book (chapter 4 if you were wondering)
iii) pleasure: ''a cause or source of enjoyment or delight''
d) I'm going to try and reframe the conversation today

2) A few years ago I was at my bank looking to open an account
a) Story: bank teller
b) Her question: ''What do you think about premarital sex?''
c) What would you say?
3) I actually knew I wanted to write this book when I was in high school
a) From an early age I've watched people make a weird choice
b) They think they have to pick either God, or a life that is fun
i) That's why we call them ''guilty pleasures''
ii) ''If you don't think sin is fun then you're not doing it right.'' Craig Groschel
iii) And this is why most of us feel weird talking about pleasure at Church!
c) I moved into a new house recently
i) You find all sorts of weird quirks about a place when you live there
ii) My floor was heated
(1) Which was nice
(2) But I knew it shouldn't be
d) A lot of people approach pleasure like that
e) In the book I dive into specific areas where we often struggle with pleasure: Sex, tobacco, alcohol, work, parenting, entertainment, the way we view others
4) In our search to experience more pleasure, we have convinced ourselves of a powerful lie
a) That we can have pleasure whenever and however we want it.
i) By pursuing pleasure on our terms, we actually experience less of it.
