We talk about money. There’s a great deal of discussion every day in our lives
about money. In fact it is amazing when you think about it how much time we really do
spend talking about money. We talk about how to make money. We talk about how to
spend it. We talk about how to save it. We talk about how to keep it. We talk about how
to use it. Money is a subject which is very, very prominent in the conversation and in the
lives of every one of us. I guess this is why when you read the Bible you will find so
much time is devoted in the Scriptures to the subject of money. The Bible is a very
practical and a very down-to-earth book. It deals with our life as it really is and it
touches on subjects that are important in our lives. Certainly money is one of those. The
Lord Jesus Christ told a number of parables and one out of every three of the parables of
Jesus have to do with the subject of money. Jesus preached many sermons and one out of
every three recorded sermons in the New Testament of our Lord have to do with the
subject of money.
The Bible never condemns money. We are not told that money is wrong. In fact
the Bible specifically says that it is the love of money which is the root of all evil—not
money itself. And the Bible tells us that there is nothing wrong with people making
money. And there is nothing wrong with people accumulating a lot of money. The
condemnation here is not a blanket condemnation of all people who may be wealthy. He
is not dealing with wealth in general because there were certain great of the saints of
God in the Bible who were very wealthy individuals.
