Madelyn Murray O’Hare is missing. She’s been missing for about four years.
She disappeared about four years ago and no one has heard from her since. They have
found her diaries, but no Madelyn Murray O’Hare. Some people believe she died.
Others believe that she and family members took the money they had and went to another
country. Mrs. O’Hare was probably the best-known Atheist in America. She was the
founder of several Atheist organizations and she claimed to be an intellectual Atheist.
She claimed that she did not believe intellectually that there is a God. There are some
intellectual Atheists, although intellectual Atheism has fallen on hard times in recent
days.
A lot of people are like the guy who said, “I’m an Atheist, thank God!” Someone
said that the Atheist doesn’t find God for the same reason a thief doesn’t find a
policeman. There are evidences all around to cause any intelligent person to believe
there is a God. All you have to do is look up, look around and look within and the
testimony up and around and in will give witness to the fact that there is a God.
The Atheists have been upset with Christians for a long time. They have said it’s
not fair for Christians to have all the special days. December 25, Christmas Day. In the
sprint—Easter. Those kinds of things. I think in the interest of fairness we probably
should have some special day for the Atheists. I would like to propose April 1. The fool
hath said in his heart there is no God.
I guess there are some people who are intellectual Atheists. But James is talking
about another kind of Atheist. James is talking about a practical Atheist. In this
particular passage of Scripture he is talking about someone who though they may believe
intellectually that there is a God, practically, in terms of the way they live their lives, they
do not act as if there is a God. ...
