(2) Their babies have babies
iii) Exodus 1:6-7 ''Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died, but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them.'' The Story, p. 43 (Exodus 1:6-7)
(1) Generations pass... CENTURIES PASS
(2) 430 years, to be specific... THINGS CHANGE!
c) A new Pharaoh comes to power
i) Exodus 1:8-10 ''Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. 'Look,' he said to his people, 'the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.''' The Story, p. 43 (Exodus 1:8-10)
(1) This isn't hard to understand
(a) The people are multiplying
(b) He's simply doing the math
(2) Time for a change
ii) So he does a couple of things:
(1) Exodus 1:11 ''So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor...'' The Story, p. 43 (Exodus 1:11)
(a) So, just that quickly, they are slaves.
(b) All their freedom is gone overnight.
(2) Exodus 1:22 ''Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: 'Every Hebrew boy that is born you must ...
