Big Idea: God, because he loves you, will often withhold from you the very thing you long for most--until it finds its proper place.
1) Introduction
a) Welcome and Greeting
b) Warnings:
i) Have you noticed that there are increasingly more and more warning signs everywhere?
ii) We live in a society with a lot of lawsuits. So there are warning labels on everything now.
iii) Here are a few examples: (Show images as I talk them)
(1) Hanger - ''Caution - do not swallow.''
(a) Would you have to warn someone if no one ever attempted something?
(2) Hair dryer - ''do not use while sleeping''
(3) Iron - ''Warning: Do not iron clothes on body.''
(4) Microwave - ''Not to be used for the drying of pets.''
(5) Chainsaw - ''Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands.''
(6) Q-tips - ''Do not insert swab into ear canal:
(a) Can anyone here avoid doing this?
(b) What else is a Q tip for?
(7) Dog prescription (on bottle) ''use carefully when operating a car or dangerous machinery.'' What kind of animal is driving a car?
c) Hopefully, for most of us these warnings are not needed.
i) Simple common sense should prevail.
ii) Some things should never even cross your mind.
iii) But sometimes we need people to come into our life who are uncommon and who say uncommon things.
(1) They know things we don't know
(2) They help us make the right decisions.
(3) They see what we don't see, and say what needs to be said.
iv) Let's be clear... nobody knows everything!
(1) Actual ad in New York newspaper: ''Complete set of Encyclopedia Britannia. 45 volumes. Excellent condition. $1,000 or best offer. No longer needed. Got married last weekend. Wife knows everything.''
(2) Most of us don't know anybody who knows everything!
d) In the Bible there's a group of people called ''the prophets.''
i) They don't claim to know everything.
