1) Welcome to Central!
a) We are covering Chapter 10 of The Story
b) Today's title is: Standing Tall, Falling Hard
c) We are in week 1 of our new journal
d) Open your Bibles to 1 Samuel
2) You can tell a lot about yourself in the way that you respond to phone calls
a) Getting a call as an introvert
i) I'll let it go to voicemail
ii) Let's see how important it is
iii) Sometimes I enjoy sending the auto responses to my wife (because it drives her crazy)
iv) ''I'm busy... call you later''
b) If you have 20 unanswered voicemails, you are either a severe procrastinator, a hermit, or on the FBI's most wanted list
c) As I've seen throughout Scripture, and experienced personally, God also calls us
i) There are moments when His spirit lays out an opportunity for us
ii) We get to decide what we do with it
d) Big idea: Those who embrace God's call experience His story.
i) God won't force it on you.
ii) You legitimately have a choice in whether you follow Him
iii) The way you respond to God's call displays how much power He has in your life
3) After the 300 or so years of the Judges we get to a woman named Hannah
a) She's married to a guy named Elkanah [picture - man and woman with names underneath]
b) Elkanah was married to two women [same pic as above but add one woman with the name Peninnah underneath]
i) Peninnah had children but Hannah did not
ii) Not having children was the greatest disappointment of Hannah's life (as some of you have experienced)
iii) Often times when people don't understand your pain they tend to say incredibly insensitive things to you
(1) ''Hannah, why are you weeping?'' (as if he has no idea)
(2) ''Why don't you eat?'' (as if some snacks will solve it)
(3) ''Why are you downhearted?''
(4) ''Don't I mean more to you than ten sons?'' (let's just say that husbands don't always know how to handle delicate situati ...
