How to Handle Your Fear
Dr. David Davis
2 Timothy 1:6-8

Ann Landers receives over 10,000 letters each month. She reported that most of the letters she received have to do with FEAR. People are afraid. The fear of losing one's health, wealth, friends, family, or failure. The problem of fear.

I want you to discover how to conquer your fear -- but I'm not going to give you advice from Ann Landers. The answer to fear is found in the Word of God.

Not all fear is bad. Franklin Roosevelt once said, ''There is nothing to fear, but fear itself.'' I don't fully agree with that statement. There is more to fear than just fear itself.

God has put an instinct in us that was meant to protect us.

There is another kind of fear. Jesus said it Himself when He said, ''And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.'' (Matthew 10:28)

Jesus said you ought to fear the possibility of dying and going to hell. I would rather scare you into heaven than to lull you into hell.

Proverbs 1:7 - ''The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.''

To fear the Lord doesn't mean that you cringe before the Lord. The Bible word for fear is ''reverence.'' You have a holy respect for God.

An electrician has respect for electricity. That doesn't mean that he trembles every day he goes to work. But it does mean that he knows what's in those wires. A respect for that power.

There is no competition between loving God and fearing God. The man who fears God the most loves God the best.

Let me give you a definition of the fear of the Lord. ''The fear of the Lord is love on its knees.''

We are talking about just fear -- but the ''spirit of fear.'' This is a negative fear or perhaps a phobia.

The dictionary list about 700 different kinds of phobias. Hundreds of fears.
Acrophobia - fear of high places
Claustrophobia - fear of b ...
