Big Idea: Adversity first reveals, then defines your character.
1) Opening Comments
a) Greetings to all
b) MLK Comments
i) One of the greatest tragedies of our society is racism
(1) Always has been.
(2) Unfortunately, it still exists.
ii) The most segregated hour in America... 11 AM on Sunday
iii) This is something that I believe just breaks the heart of God
iv) Church is the best place to get ready for heaven!!!
v) We are all ONE in Christ
(1) All are equal
(2) All are welcome
(3) All are valued
vi) So today, together, we celebrate the life, leadership, and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
2) Plan B
a) The Concept:
i) You planned A
ii) You were handed B
iii) You must learn how to make the best of B, not A
(1) You are not helpless
(2) You are not a victim
(3) You must make your mind up to allow God to redeem your life and create in you the person he wants you to become.
iv) Note: Two weeks from now... PETE WILSON will be our guest

i) If there is one thing all of us would indeed choose, if we could... would be to avoid pain, disappoint and suffering.
ii) We tend to see these as worthless and bothersome.
iii) We also tend to interpret them as a sign of GOD HAVING ABANDONED US
iv) Interestingly, the Bible doesn't agree... AT ALL, IN ANY WAY!
3) Two Significant Biblical Teachings Regarding Adversity
a) Difficult times will come in your life
i) John 16:33 ''... in this world you will have trouble.''
ii) Acts 14:22 ''We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.''
iii) God never promised us a ''rose garden'' - despite what others have promised us.
