Mark 10:35-45
Good morning. We're leading up to Easter Sunday by observing the season of Lent. And maybe you've always thought that Lent was all about giving up some pleasurable thing-chocolate or coffee or Facebook. And that can be a good thing-the Bible calls it ''fasting,'' and a 40-day fast can be a great way to grow closer to God. But this year, we're focusing more on the deeper attitudes and habits of our lives. So every week, we're listening to the teaching of Jesus and allowing his words to identify things in us that are hindering our relationship with God, and also sort of weighing us down-holding us back in life. And then, we're asking for God's power to repent of those things-which simply means choosing to turn away from sin and toward God.
So...we have talked about turning from Religion to a Relationship with God.
We talked about turning from Anxiety to Peace.
We talked about turning from Greed to Generosity.
Last week we talked about turning from racial Isolation to Diversity.
And today we're going to talk about turning from a life of Striving to a life of Service. And you'll see exactly what I mean by that when we dive into today's passage. So let's look at the Scripture-Mark 10, verses 35 to 45.

38 ''You don't know what you are asking,'' Jesus said. ''Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?''
39 ''We can,'' they answered.
Jesus said to them, ''You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have be ...
