Courage to Stand (1 of 11)
Series: Standing for the Truth
Stephen Whitney
I Kings 16:30-17:1
In 1994 Robin Mark, an Irish singer and musician wrote a contemporary Christian song titled: Days of Elijah.
These are the days of Elijah, declaring the word of the Lord
And these are the days of your servant Moses,
righteousness being restored.
And these are days of great trial,
of famine and darkness and sword,
Still we are the voice in the desert crying
''Prepare ye the way of the Lord!''
The song came from him watching a television show ''Review
of the Year'' at the end of 1994. This was the year of Rwandan civil war tragedy which claimed 1 million people's lives. As he watched the show he found himself despairing about the state of the world and in prayer he began asking God if he was really in control and what kind of days we were living in.
He felt in his spirit that God replied to him that he was very much in control and that the days were we living in were special times when he would require Christians to be filled with integrity and to stand up for him just as Elijah did, particularly with the prophets
of Baal. Elijah stood alone and spoke the truth for God in an age
that was characterized by easy tolerance and worship of idols.
Today God needs men and women like Elijah to speak the truth
to a generation that does not know God or respect his laws.
Today people are a law unto them selves and do what is right
in their own eyes without any thought about what God says.
We need to call sinful behavior sin even though it is not political correct and let people know that there is only one true God even
though we live in a culture where false gods such as: Allah and Islam along with Buddha and Hinduism are promoted. Those who are not into some formal religion worship themselves by their success in business or how many friends they have on facebook.
