To us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6).

SCRIPTURE READING

There comes a time in our lives when our greatest desire at Christmastime is not to get new toys and gadgets. We long for something that will benefit all of humanity: peace on earth.

God has the same desire. The prophet Isaiah foretold that Jesus would be called the ''Prince of Peace'' (Isa. 9:6). And on the night of Jesus' birth, the angels said, ''Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace'' (Luke 2:14). When God came to earth, he came to bring peace. [TITLE DROP!]

PEACE ON EARTH

One of humanity's greatest desires is to experience peace on earth.
People are looking for someone to bring peace to earth.

Of the increase of government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time for and forevermore'' (Isaiah 9:6-7).
The promise was given during days of INJUSTICE and RIGHTEOUSNESS.
''The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light'' (Isa. 9:2).
The promise foretold that the Messiah would be a descendent of DAVID.
''Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever'' (2 Sam. 7:16).
The promise was given to provide HOPE.
