c) Today:
i) Bible: 1 Chronicles 21
ii) Journal:
(1) Title: The Gift of A Legacy
(2) Big Idea: If you're seeing great success in your life, you're probably viewing it from the top of someone else's shoulders.
d) Let's talk legacy
i) What is a legacy?
ii) A legacy is what someone left behind.... and your life benefitted from.
iii) It's the ''jump'' or the ''bounce'' you got in life from someone else's energy.
(1) Think of yourself as standing on a trampoline.
(a) Someone put the energy into jumping and you got propelled.
(b) Not because you ''did anything'' but because they did and they directed their efforts toward you!
(2) This is all about momentum
(3) You could say what you inherited is someone else's legacy.
(a) So often when we hear the word ''inheritance'' we think of money.
(b) The question to wrestle with today is what ''other than money'' did you inherit?
iv) Let me ask you: Whose shoulders are you standing on?
(1) This quote (idea) is attributed to the 12th century theologian and author John of Salisbury. Though he wrote this in Latin in 1159 the interpretation is basically this:
(2) ''We are like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants. We see more, and things that are more distant, than they did, not because our sight is superior or because we are taller than they, but because they raise us up, and by their great stature add to ours.'' John of Salisbury
(3) Who are the giants in your life?
e) Often, we see someone who is very successful and we credit their success to their hard work... A CLOSER LOOK reveals there is often much MORE TO THE STORY.
f) This is true in just about any kind ...
