SEVENTY WEEKS UNTIL THE END
Daniel 9

One of the things I have desired to do for a number of years, I guess all of my life
really, was to visit the island of Patmos where John the Beloved Disciple of the Lord
Jesus Christ, received the vision which constitutes our book of The Revelation, the last
book of our Bible. It is one of the places in the earth which I believe is generally
authentic. On a recent trip I was able to go to the island of Patmos. It is not a large
island. I went up the mountain and into the cave where it is believed that John the old
apostle of the Lord received the revelation.
John was in his late 80’s at the time God unveiled to him a vision which gives to
us the future of the entire world. I couldn’t help but think about it as I was in that
particular place, thinking about John and the book of The Revelation, that it was to
another old man centuries before that time--a man named Daniel--that God also gave a
revelation when he was in his late 80’s. Basically it unlocks the door to an understanding
of the book of The Revelation.
Daniel 9 is perhaps one of the greatest chapters of Bible prophecy in the entire
Word of God. Not perhaps, it is absolutely a fact. It may be the chapter that is the key to
understanding prophecy in all of the Bible. It has been referred to as the backbone of
prophecy. If you understand basically what is taught in the conclusion of Daniel 9, you
will have a framework which will help you understand what God has to say about Bible
prophecy. There are certain designations give in the book of The Revelation which
cannot be understood apart from what God revealed to this old man Daniel many, many
centuries ago.
It is a prophecy that has to do with the nation of Israel. It is a prophecy that tells
us what will take place in the nation of Israel at the end of the age. So it was to Daniel
that God gave this tremendous prophecy.
