Deuteronomy 8:10-14
1) Backtracking
a) So...What If?
i) Since everyone is talking about money...let's talk about it.
ii) People in the church get upset when the church talks about money:
(1) I believe the only people who get upset about the preacher talking about money is Satan and those who don't give
(2) It seems like this would be a really good reason to talk about money
b) Questions
i) God was your financial advisor?
ii) You could live debt free?
iii) Money was no object?
iv) Giving came easily?
c) Three big ideas:
i) Your financial health is not about what you make but what you do with what you make
ii) When it comes to finances, you make your choices and then your choices make you.
iii) When it comes to your financial health, nothings going to change unless you do
d) Today's big idea:
i) 1 Samuel 2:30b ''But now the Lord declares: ...Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.''
ii) God honors those who honor him!
e) Where'd you get all that stuff?
i) A basic premise: All we have we owe to God
ii) Deuteronomy 8:18 ''But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.''
iii) Deuteronomy 8:10-14 ''When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.''
