b) Where we were last week...

i) Jesus leaves the home of the Pharisee

ii) At the beginning of Luke 12 Jesus is in the midst of a huge crowd

iii) He instructs the disciples on what to fear and what not to worry about:

(1) You SHOULD Fear:
(a) Hypocrisy
(b) Duplicity
(c) Hell - and him who can send you there
(d) Denying God
(e) Blaspheming the Holy Spirit

(2) You SHOULD NOT Fear:
(a) Death - or the threat of it
(b) Abandonment
(c) How you will defend yourself

c) Where we are today


3) To the Text:

a) Luke 12:13-14
i) This is Part 1 of a 2 part message

b) The situation:

i) The Request:

(1) Luke 12:13 ''Someone in the crowd said to him, 'Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.'''
(a) This was rather bold on his part!
(b) He didn't ''filter'' his question.
(i) Everybody in the crowd heard it
(ii) Everybody in the crowd is going to hear Jesus' response
(c) Note to self: Think before you talk!!!

(2) He thinks he's talking about someone else who has a problem!
(a) Jesus is going to show him otherwise
(b) How often we reveal our own hearts by our words!!!

ii) The Response:

(1) Luke 12:14 ''Jesus replied, 'Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?'''
(a) This guy is trying to get Jesus to ''weigh in'' - sure he's going to get the answer he expected!
(b) Jesus:
(i) DUDE! DO I LOOK LIKE JUDGE JUDY TO YOU???
(ii) ''Why do you think your inheritance issues are my problem?''
(c) Jesus clearly chooses to steer clear of this guy's problem
