(2) To Gary Weekly, Elder Extraordinaire
(3) How does a person like me, or a board like ours, or a church like Central, adequately put into words the depth of appreciation and respect we have and hold for a man like you as you retire as an Elder in our church? There are few things I think are more difficult, but you simply deserve our best attempt.
(4) Gary, we are deeply indebted to you for the many years of faithful and committed leadership you have invested in this church, this ministry, and each of us personally. There is no doubt in any of our minds that we are a much better church because we have been the recipient of your passionate, focused, faithful and visionary leadership.
(5) You were at the helm of our Board, and consequently led us through some of the most far-reaching, risk filled and challenging decisions that we have ever made as a church. You have stood before our congregation with steeled nerves and clearly articulated the direction that we believed God was leading us. You refused to be intimidated or daunted when lesser men would have capitulated under the pressure. You, instead, were simply faithful and fearless.
(6) The truth is, we are very much the church we now are, due to you and your dedication to God's calling on your life. This is true in the local sense and it is true in the global sense. You have been instrumental and influential in all and through all.
