ii) The opportunities:
(1) Adopt-a-family
(a) Now through December 2
(b) Central's goal of 500 families to be adopted.
(c) Adopting means we will supply a full Christmas with gifts, cards, family needs and often times dinner
(d) Encourage life groups to join together to adopt a family
(i) Our life group adopted a family with 8 kids!
(ii) What a hoot!
(iii) This isn't a family that attends Central...it is a great opportunity to pour out the love of Jesus!
(e) More information at the tables in the lobby
(2) Canned food drive
(a) Pick a bag up in the lobby bring food back to the thanksgiving service
2) Putting Jesus to the Test
a) Luke 10:25-28
i) Understand that Jesus is ''on the road''
(1) He is moving intentionally
(2) We are invited to follow deliberately
ii) Luke 10:25-28 ''On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. 'Teacher,' he asked, 'what must I do to inherit eternal life?' 'What is written in the Law?' he replied. 'How do you read it?' He answered: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 'You have answered correctly,' Jesus replied. 'Do this and you will live.'''
iii) Details worth noting:
(1) Note the audacity of this ''expert in the law''
(a) How smart do you think Jesus is?
(b) Would you really want to get into a battle of wits with him?
(c) This is a standard Jewish question... it's not really all that profound
(i) What he was wanting to do is to see if Jesus would be ''inclusive'' or ''exclusive''
(ii) He simply wanted to try to trap Jesus by his answer
(iii) What is profound is to how widely Jesus answered this question
(2) Notice how Jesus put the question right back to him... ''How do ...
