In 1952 there was an American musical comedy called ''Singing in the Rain'' which had three primary stars, Gene Kelly, Donald O'Conner, and Debbie Reynolds. The movie was only mildly viewed as a hit when first released but now is applauded as one of the top five movies American ever made and was ranked as the number one musical.

There is a scene in the movie where Kelly walks his date to her door and upon her being out of sight he begins to sing and dance with kid like exuberance. He sings and dances with childlike disregard for the down pouring rain, as he jumps gleefully in and out of puddles of water. Then to his dismay a policeman suddenly appears with a smug frown that lets him quickly know that he disapproves of his joyous jubilation. He unwillingly stops dancing and singing and hands his umbrella to a passerby and smilingly walks off into the rain.

This is exactly the same scenario that Paul was exposing between the Legalist Judaizers and those that enjoyed the freedom of living under grace. Those that are legalist will not allow others to enjoy the grace that Christ has given us through his death, burial, and resurrection. In our sermon today we will see that Paul confronts Peter over the fact that he knowingly was trying to inflict legalistic principles upon the Gentile converts at Antioch. The council at Jerusalem had confirmed the facts of the gospel to be strictly a gospel of grace, plus nothing or minus nothing. Peter knew this and at times interacted with the Gentiles in a way that beautifully proclaimed this fact, but when in the presence of the Legalist and the Judaizers he reverted by to rit ...
