Hebrews 11:1-3

INTRODUCTION: Before we were called, ''Christians'' we were called, ''Believers''. Belief or Faith is the essence of Christianity. If faith is the essence of who we are, it is incredibly important that we understand the essence of faith. If there were one thing for the enemy to pervert or mislead it is obviously faith!

There are 2 Popular Unbiblical Views of Faith:

1. Faith is Something We Use to Control God -

So in other words if you want God to do something you just have to ''FAITH'' him into it. If you can grit your teeth and work up enough faith... God has to work on your behalf.

First let me say if you think you can control the Ancient of Days you have a pitifully poor view of God and an absurdly high view of yourself.

I would NEVER worship a God that you or I could control - If I am in control, shouldn't He worship me? The most elementary concepts of theology teach us that it is laughable to think we can make God do anything.

Hebrews 12:28-29 (ESV)

28...let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.

So banish the idea from your minds that you can faith God into giving you anything.

If you watch Christian television indiscriminately you will get the idea that Jesus is what Dr. Robert Smith calls a ''Cosmic Vending Machine that they can walk up to, put in their quarter then kick when they don't get what they want in protest.''

If you drive a mini-van that's because you got mini-van faith... if you want a Cadillac you got to have Cadillac faith.

This would include Creflo Dollar, Rod Parsley, Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, Joel Olsteen - they all teach this unbiblical view of faith.

Notice they are on television - notice they don't put those guys on Radio because if all you had were their words you'd realize they were saying anything.

Faith is NOT believing controlling God...

2. Faith in Faith is all ...
