In every family there are certain traits or characteristics that are passed down through the old genetic gene pool.
1. In NC when John Mark was just a little guy and starting to string sentences together we were riding into Raleigh one day to go eat and visit the hospitals (he and Kristal would often make those trips to town with me). His car seat was behind mine and he said, 'Mama, my got a big heat like daddy don't I.'
2. There is something about each of us that bears some resemblance to the family. Most of us have gotten the old 'hey you remind me of your ___________.'
a. Maybe it is our beady little eyes, unmistakable nose and profile, prominent eyebrows or ears, curly hair or build.
b. Maybe it is a look or goofy mannerism or quirk.
3. Regardless of what it might be there is probably something that says - yep that person is a Dawson or a ___________________. There is something that says he/she is a part of that family.
As believers there should be some distinguishing birthmarks that provide evidence that we belong to the God's family.
Throughout our study of this letter we have seen John continually provide us ways to determine if we belong to the family of God or not. Here at the close of his letter John continues to challenge us look at our own lives and see if there is a family resemblance in our lives. Is there something that about us that says they belong to the family?
