Have you ever listened to someone tell a story or a salesman giving you a sales pitch and thought...I really wish there was some way to determine if what they are telling me is true. The story may have seemed a little far-fetched or the claims about what this product or investment would do seemed a little outrageous and you wanted some evidence in addition to what they were saying to confirm their story --- to add validity to it so that you could actually trust it.
Most of us, as we get a little older, get a touch jaded and skeptical. We don't readily accept everything we hear because we have heard a lot of bold and brash claims about people, products or experiences and before we believe them, buy them or invest with them we want proof...
If truth be told we want more than the evidence they give us we want to find someone we know and trust and have found to be reliable to recommend it or hear their testimony and experience.
1. If you go online to buy a product you can look at all the reviews and comments that have been made about that product or investment. You have consumer reports and investment guides --- we want to believe but we need proof.
2. We want to hear it from someone we trust or respect. I know when I go to buy books to study, if I don't know the author, I will look at the publisher and I will look at those who have recommended the book or written the preface for the book.
We want some evidence or testimony to validate what we are being asked to believe.
John understood that about people. He had been writing to refute false claims about Christ and to present the truth about Christ. He was asking His readers to believe that:
1. (1.1-3) - To believe in the deity of Christ.
2. (1.7) - Power of death to cleanse us from sin
3. (2.2) - To appease and absorb the wrath of God against sin
4. (4.9-12) - Love of God was expressed in its fullest mea ...
