Aspects of Life Pleasing to God

This may come as a shock to some of you…I was not a perfect kid growing up. I know some of you are disappointed but it's true. I got into my share of trouble, usually because of my mouth. I received my share of punishment, though not nearly as much as my older brother wanted and in all fairness probably not as much as I deserved.
Parents have different ways of getting their point across. They could place you on restriction, not allowing you to go play with a friend or taking some privilege away. They could create extra work around the house and yards to be done, dad loved that one. They could wash your mouth out with soap. Never had that one. They could use the paddle or the belt. Familiar with those. Sometimes they would simply try to lecture you to death. Another of dad's favorites.
One of the most painful punishments I could receive was really not intended as a punishment. It was when it was obvious, in their face or what they said, that they were disappointed in you. The most hurtful things were to see or hear the wors, ''I am disappointed or I am ashamed.'' Those stung.
A friend of mine was sharing with me about the time he had to quit college because their grades were so low. They flunked out of college. The one thing they still remember to this day, imprinted on their mind, is the look on their father's face when they were forced to tell him. That look of disappointment is still seen and felt today.
The desire to please our parents and those we esteem is ingrained in us. It is a strong desire. Just like I hated to hear or think that my parents were disappointed in me it was a great joy to know they delighted in me and were pleased with me. It lifted our hearts to hear them say, ''Good job or I am so proud of you.''
We all want to feel acceptance and affirmation. We want to please those we love. I feel that way about my relationship with God, my heavenly father. I wan ...
