In the book, ''The Day America Told the Truth'' 70 percent of Americans said that they have no living heroes.
Researchers for the World Almanac and Book of Facts asked 2000 American eighth-grade students to name prominent people they admired and wanted to be like. Commenting on this, columnist Sidney J. Harris lamented the fact that every one of the 30 prominent personalities who were named was either an entertainer or an athlete. He noted that the heroes and heroines created by our society are people who have made it big, but not necessarily people who have done BIG things
Ask Men magazine recently compiled it's list of the world's top 10 Unsung Heroes.

#9-Roald Amundsen: 1st person to reach the South Pole
#8-Clara Barton: founder of the American Red Cross
#7-Thurgood Marshall: 1st African-American on Supreme Court
#6-Rosalind Franklin: Develop X-Ray Diffraction to decode DNA
#5-Ada Lovelace: World's 1st computer programmer
#4-Rene Laennec: Developed the stethoscope
#3-Victoria Woodhull: 1st woman to run for President in 1872
#2-Adolph Rickenbacker: Invented amplified electric guitar
#1-Nikola Tesla: Invented alternating current (electrical outlet)
While everyone of these men and woman are, no doubt, heroes; I would submit to you that none of them can hold a candle to the unsung hero in our text. Without this hero, the Plan, Purpose and Provision of God, for the ages, would have been altered.
