One of the stages that all children seem go through is the dreaded 'why' stage. They intuitively seem to know and understand that there is or should be a reason behind everything. They believe they have a right to know what that reason is before complying with any parental request or command…
1. Why do I have to pick up my clothes? Clean my room?
2. Why do I have to eat these green beans?
3. Why can't I ride my bike in the street?
4. Why can't I stick this fork in the light socket?
5. Why can't I drink that glass of milk I left on the table 8 hours ago?
Why, Why, Why.
1. The question comes because they are curious about learning.
2. It also comes because if there is not a sufficient reason or deterrent in their mind to cause them to do or not do something they are going will or will not do it, whatever the case may be.
The truth is, we don't really grow out of that stage - it becomes more sophisticated and not as easily detected.
1. If the reward or reason for doing or not doing isn't great enough to motivate us to do or not to do then we don't.
2. Before we suffer, sweat, bleed or burden ourselves with some task or submit to some rule, authority or regulation we want a very, very good reason.
3. Before we step out of our comfort zone we want a very, very good reason. Before we accept or attempt change we want good reasons for it.
4. Why exercise? Diet? Manage our finances? Avoid credit cards? Go to school or receive skills training? Why go through this medical treatment or take this medicine?
We still want to know why.
People have not really changed through the years and in having done a little bit of traveling abroad people are basically the same no matter where we live or the color of our skin.
