1 Timothy 2:8-15
As we begin tonight I want to remind you of Paul’s purpose in writing. Paul, who is nearing the end of his journey and apostolic career, is passing on the torch of ministry to Timothy and all who will come after them.
1 Timothy 3.15 - I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.
As we worked our way through the first chapter and half of Timothy we have seen the call to and the need to…
1. Protect the Gospel against false teaching.
2. Proclaim the Gospel and been issued the call to preach sound doctrine. Paul has highlighted his call as apostle and a messenger of God and Timothy’s as a teacher and preacher.
3. Promote the Gospel through faithful living. (1.16)
4. Prayer according to the Gospel mission. We are to let the Gospel inform our prayer life. Pray for all men. Pray for those in authority so they will lead society into a peace and tranquility so that the Gospel will spread and people will be able to live boldly and visually the Gospel before all men without fear.
As we finish chapter 2 Paul continues to detail for us how we are to conduct ourselves within the church, which is the pillar and support of the truth. In the verses we will examine tonight, 1 Timothy 2.8-15, and those we will look at in coming weeks Paul begins to focus on the worship of the church. He begins to look at the functioning of the church and its leaders.
Here we start to focus on our attitude and actions in worship and our roles in worship – especially the roles of men and women in relation to the teaching of God’s Word.
