Paul, who is nearing the end of his journey and apostolic career, is passing on the torch of ministry to Timothy and all who will come after them. Last week we learned some valuable lessons on what it takes to survive and succeed in ministry.

1. A faithful and effective minister/servant is a student of God's Word.
2. A faithful and effective minister/servant faithfully teaches God' Word
3. A faithful and effective minister/servant faithfully models the Word through His life
4. A faithful and effective minister/servant diligently and passionately pursues his calling

Tonight, we are going to find that a faithful and effective minister/servant understands ministry is about relationships. Ministry is about people. Inside the local church there are different groups of people we have to relate to. There are people of different ages (therefore generational gaps) and people in different phases of life and different levels of leadership and influence within the church.

1. Part of our vision is for FBCLP to become a faith family where believers of varying cultures, races, backgrounds and generations come together in genuine biblical community.

In chapter 5 Paul is going to tell Timothy how to properly relate to some of the groups present in his faith community.
5 Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers, 2 the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity.
In that verse we see the wide range of people that should be a part of the church - young and old alike and Timothy is called upon to relate to each of them but not all in the same way. I think we all know you don't treat everybody in the family exactly alike because each person is different and has different personalities and needs. The same is true in our faith family.
