If you have your Bible, please turn to 2nd Corinthians chapter 8. I want to talk to you tonight about this subject: The Greatest Giver.
I was reading today about a man. He was born in 1887 in Chicago. He was born to a very, very wealthy family. His name was William Borden. And his father had built a very successful company, multi-multi-multi-millionaire. Well, Bill Borden came to Christ when he was in high school and loved the Lord and wanted to serve the Lord. And he had gotten an inheritance when he was just a young man, a million dollars, which in 1912 was, if you put that into today's terms, was almost 25 million dollars. That was what he got from his father with much more to come if he had continued in the business. But he took that million dollars and he gave it away to Christian causes and Christian ministries. And he separated himself from the family fortune, and he said, ''I want to be a missionary to Muslims.'' And so he went overseas to do just that.
When his father found out everything that he was doing, he was not happy about it. When William Borden gave away all the money, he said, ''What does a missionary need to have money for?'' and he gave it all away. He wrote in his Bible two words - ''No Reserves.'' And then, when his father found out that he was not going to be part of the family business, and he was going overseas to be a missionary, his father let him know that, ''You're done! We're done with you as far as coming back into the business. You've made your decision, and so that's your decision, and you can't come back.'' And William Borden wrote in his Bible two words - ''No Retreats.'' No reserves, No retreat.
And then, he wasn't in Egypt very long. He was studying Aramaic the language to be able to speak to those he felt God impressed upon him to serve in the Muslim community and to share Christ with. And it wasn't too long there in Egypt w ...
