2 Corinthians 11:1-6
If you have your Bible, please turn to 2nd Corinthians chapter 11. I want to talk to you tonight about this subject: Deceived or Devoted?
I read about two fifth-grade boys. They were walking home from church one Sunday. And the pastor had preached a very strong sermon about the devil. And one boy said to the other boy, he said, ''Hey, what do you think about all this stuff about the devil? What do you make of that?'' And he said to his friend, ''Well, you remember the thing about Santa Claus?'' He said, ''I think the devil's probably just your dad!'' Sometimes we can confuse our kids with the Santa Claus thing, but the devil is not your dad. The devil is a real being, a real entity. Some people teach today and preach today that the devil is not real. He's just some force, like Star Wars - the good force and the bad force. But the devil's a real being. God didn't create the devil. He created a beautiful angel named Lucifer. But Lucifer was corrupted, and Lucifer turned against God, and he turned against all that God had for him, and God cast him out of heaven, and Lucifer became Satan, the father of the night. And he is on a mission to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
Now he was at work in Corinth. Paul had gone in there and established a church in Corinth. The church was doing well. He spent many months there building up the church and sharing the Word of God and preaching to the people and teaching them the truth. But then, when Paul left, the false teachers came in, and the false teachers were emissaries of the devil. And they were disguised as apostles of Christ, but they weren't. They were being used by the devil. And Paul recognized that. And so he told the Corinthians that he was extremely afraid that they were going to be deceived by the devil and get derailed by the devil. The Scripture says in Revelation he deceives the whole world. He is a deceiver ...
