1 Corinthians 1:1-3
Well, if you have your Bible, please turn to 1st Corinthians chapter 1. I want to give just kind of a brief introduction. We're doing a new sermon series that I'm starting tonight on 1st Corinthians. And I've entitled this series, ''And You Think You've Got Problems!'' And the reason that I've entitled it that way is because if you know anything about 1st Corinthians, you know that the church in Corinth was a church filled with problems. I mean, it's just amazing when you read 1st Corinthians. You're like, ''Wow! They had a problem here, here, here, here, here. Is this really a church? Are these people really saved? Are there any Christians that live in Corinth?'' And the answer is yes. There were Christians that lived in Corinth. Paul went to Corinth in about 50- 51 A.D. on his second missionary journey. He was there for 18 months, and he established a church there, the church at Corinth. And it was a church that did have struggles and did have trials and did have problems. And when you read about a church that has struggles and trials and problems, when you read about people that have struggles and trials and problems, I don't know about you, but I know about me. I get encouraged by that. I have trouble if you hear from somebody and it's the church that never has problems. It's like, ''Well, I can't relate to that.'' The person that never messes up. ''Well, I can't relate to you.'' But the person that messes up a lot, the church that has problems, it's like, ''Man, I can really learn from you, and I can relate to you. And sometimes I can kind of feel good because it's like, ''Wow! I thought I had problems. You have tons. I mean I'm feeling pretty good. My load's pretty light.'' And so we can learn a lot, and God can teach us so much through this book and through this church and lessons that we can learn about ourselves and ...
