1 Corinthians 3:16-23
If you have your Bible, please turn to 1st Corinthians chapter 3. I want to talk to you tonight about the subject of body building.
Now body building has been around for a long time, but I think that most of us would probably say the thing that put body building really on the map was when a guy from Austria made a movie called Pumping Iron. His name was Arnold Schwarzenegger. You remember he starred in the movie. It was 1977. It was called Pumping Iron. It was all about Arnold working out, and Lou Ferrigo working out, and these guys getting ready for the Mr. Olympia contest, Mr. Universe contest, and how they trained and what they did. And it was kind of like a cult phenomenon. This movie became just really, really popular and, Arnold Schwarzenegger became bigger than life. And at that time, he began to make movies. And Conan was one of his movies. And he got to where he could speak English a little better, and then he became governor. And it's just kind of wild but when we think of working out, if you're like me and you come from my generation, you think of a picture like this.
This is working out. That is Arnold when he was really something. And I think we have a picture of his competitor, Lou Ferrigo.
There was Lou. After that, he turned green and he became The Incredible Hulk. But that was Lou Ferrigo. But that's body building. You're going to build up your arms and your legs, and you're going to get a six pack and all those things. And one thing is for sure about those guys. And if you've ever watched the movie or clips of the movie Pumping Iron, they're lifting heavy weight. You don't get huge biceps by curling, you know, 3 pounders. They had huge weights that they're lifting. It's amazing how strong those guys are to build muscles like that.
