Series: 1 Corinthians - And You Think You've Got Problems

1 Corinthians 7:25-39
If you have your Bible, please turn to 1st Corinthians chapter 7. This is the third sermon we've spent on chapter 7. Chapter 7 is a long chapter - 40 verses - speaking about marriage, speaking about divorce, and speaking about the subject of being single.
Now you know, as well as I do, that most people in our society, in our culture, there is pressure to get married. Now it's changed some, and people are waiting longer and longer to get married, and a lot of people don't get married; they just live together. But if you are single your whole life, most people look at you like, ''That's kind of different. That's kind of weird.'' I mean, I have to be honest. When I first came to this church and met Larry and found out that he was single, I just thought, Well, that's kind of different, because you just don't run into that many people, especially in ministry, that are single for a lifetime.
But now, Paul the apostle, he was single, probably not for his whole lifetime. Most people think Paul was probably married and then his wife died, because Paul was an up-and-comer in the Jewish circles, a Pharisee of the Pharisees. He probably had a wife, but she died, and he was a widower. And, boy, he loved being single. Maybe he didn't have such a great marriage, who knows? But he loved being single. And the thing is that most of us today, we just kind of have this idea that, ''Well, you're single. What's wrong with you?'' And then, you get to know Larry and it's like, that's why you're single! I understand now.
When I was at Champion Forest in the Singles Department, they had a little phrase. You're either single for a reason, or you're single for a season. And any of you know that have worked with singles, you have singles in the Singles Department. Debbie and I met in the Singles Department at Champion Forest. And so we were single for a se ...
