Now in our family, gifts are an important thing, especially birthday gifts. Actually, before Debbie and I got married, she told me how important gifts were to her. And she said, ''I need a gift on every special occasion - on birthdays, Christmas, it goes without saying, anniversary, ground hog day. And she said, ''If I ever tell you it's okay to not get me a gift, I'm lying!'' It's just gifts. It's really important. One of her love languages is gifts. And so we've made a big deal out of the kids with their birthdays. And we've got a birthday coming up with Sarah. She's going to turn 20 on November 6th. And so Debbie was out buying her some stuff just the other day. And Sarah called this morning and had gift ideas for us and that kind of thing. So gifts are important. And I think most people love to receive gifts. I mean every time somebody brings me a gift, I'm not thinking, O great! What did you bring me? I'm thinking, Wonderful! . And when Larry and I were overseas, we were shopping and shopping for gifts. Larry's a pretty good gift buyer. If you can get on his list where he goes out of town like he does every other day or whenever he does, he's always out of the country. But if you can get on his list, boy, he'll get you some good stuff. It's fun to receive gifts. It's fun to receive gifts on your birthday.
Now, the greatest Gift-giver in all the universe is God. God is the One who gives the best gifts. He gives the most underserved gifts. He is the Gift-giver. And when a person receives Christ, you receive the greatest gift of all. When you see your need, you see that you're a sinner and that you're lost and that Jesus died for you.
