Your Money Matters (39 of 40)
Series: 1 Corinthians - And You Think You've Got Problems

1 Corinthians 16:1-4
I want to talk tonight about money.
There's a song in a particular play. The theme of the song was this: Money makes the world go around. And that's so true. Money is something that you and I have to have in order to make it in this world. We have to be able to pay our bills, and it requires money to be able to do that.
Now how many in this room, just being really honest, you're not trying to be spiritual. Everybody would say, ''Yeah!'' If you sit down at a job interview and they say, ''Well, we could pay you $50,000 or we could pay you $60,000 - you choose.'' You would choose, ''Well, $60,000, that would be great.'' We'd all like to have more money.

And many, many people find themselves mastered by money. They turn into the old character on Gilligan's Island, Thurston Howell, III. Do you remember Thurston Howell, III, some of you? All he ever thought about was money. When he would dream, they would hear him talking in his sleep and he just said the word, ''Money, money, money, money, money.'' He goes on a three-hour tour and he brings like a billion dollars. I mean, it's just kind of wild. But that's the way some people are. And, obviously, he was an over-characterization of what people struggle with, and so many people struggle with money.
Did you know the Bible is filled with stories of people who became mastered by money and that mastery ruined their lives?
In the Book of Joshua, we read about a guy named Achan. Remember when God destroyed Jericho, He said, ''Ever ...
