I would like to start this morning by sharing with you some stories that I ran across this week. The first one is about…
Fritz, a pastor in Indonesia, looked up one day while working at the church to find that he was surrounded by Muslim attackers who intended to rid the community and the world of one more Christian pastor. They took turns hitting him in the face and then they took a large knife and repeatedly stabbed Fritz. With each thrust of the blade Fritz cried out ‘‘Jesus!’’ The attackers grew frustrated that Fritz would just not die so they began to tear the church apart and set it on fire. Somehow Fritz survived the attack and was taken to the largest hospital in that area of Indonesia and was denied help when they learned he was a Christian. Fritz received medical care and is now preaching again at a new church.

A 14-year-old Egyptian girl named Sarah who was kidnapped and forced to marry her Muslim captor. Sarah is just the latest victim of a common practice of kidnapping girls from Christian families and forcing them to marry as part of a strategy to limit and intimidate the country’s Christian population.

Shakeela Bibi, a young bride, was excited about Monday afternoon Bible study at the church just down the road from the home. She was certain she would enjoy it. She had even spent the early afternoon baking fresh bread to take and share with the others. As she was preparing to leave she heard a lot of noise. It sounded like the local boys playing cricket with bamboo rods but when she stepped out of the house she saw a group of men with guns and clubs moving towards the church. Realizing where they were headed and what they were up to she dropped her bread and sprinted to the church to warn those inside.
