Matthew 7:21-29
Someone sent this to me this week. It’s the story of an older woman who died. She had never dated and never married. She specifically requested there be no male pallbearers used in the memorial service. In her had written instructions for her memorial service she wrote, ‘‘They wouldn’t take me out while I was alive, I don’t want them to take me out when I’m dead.
Though it may have been a little twisted and somewhat misguided this lady understood one thing; there is a definite correlation between what happens in our life here and now and in death and the hereafter. The choices we make, the things we do, how we live and what we believe all hold eternal implications for us.
This is why Jesus, here at the conclusion of this wonderful message, does what all good preachers do. He calls for a decision. He calls for a commitment.
1. All biblical teaching and preaching is ultimately is ultimately for life change - to see others know God, love God and serve God with their whole heart.
2. On one level I could care less if I ever stood up to speak publically before a group of people as long as I lived…It is not something that floats my bod, energizes my spirit and causes me to wake up in the morning. I have not stood before people leading worship and preaching for the last 22 years because it feeds my ego or need to be the center of attention---I would rather fade into the background.
3. I stand because what I have experienced in Christ and learned about Christ is compelling and needs to be shared and needs to be heard. Most preachers stand each week and teachers stand before you each week because they are convinced that no matter where you are in life - lost or saved - what we all need is Jesus and the change He brings.
4. We stand each week - not to check off our to-do list so we can draw a check but to present to you the truths of God that will change your life if you let ...
