Philippians 2
INTRODUCTION: It is said that boxer Muhammad Ali was once on a plane when the stewardess came by and asked him to fasten his seatbelt. Ali said ''I'm superman and superman don't need no seatbelt.'' The stewardess replied ''Superman don't need no airplane either, please fasten your seatbelt.''
Ali wasn't known for his humility but it's humility that I want to talk about today. I'm in a sermon series based upon Paul's letter to the Philippians. I've entitled the series ''Surprised by Joy.'' What's surprising about joy is that Paul was writing this letter from a prison cell. He wrote to a people who had been ravaged by civil war and poverty. Yet this is the most joyful letter in the New Testament. So obviously we're talking about sources of joy that transcend our physical circumstances. So far we've talked about the joy of spiritual relationships, the joy of chains, and the joy of hope. Today, I want us to think about what Paul has to say regarding the joy of humility.

After all, being ''united with Christ'' ONLY results in forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation with God and the promise of eternal life. That's pretty encouraging. We have also received comfort from Christ's love. Isn't it comforting to know that Jesus loves us so much that He died on the cross to save us? We have received fellowship with the Spirit. ''Fellowship'' ...
